I usually don't have a family tradition for St. Patty's Day but now that my daughter is getting older and starting to understand the concept of certain holidays, I may just start something that we can do together each year as she gets older.

My husband and kids are all Irish, so we try to make the day special as much as possible. Celtic music. Green recipes. Darby O'Gill movie night.

We don't really have any traditions for the day. We just talk about who he was and why he was worth remembering. Sometimes my kids choose to wear green but it is their choice for that endeavor.

We all wear green of course. We also look for 4 leaf clovers in our yard or in the fields on our farm. My grandmother's favorite thing to do was look for 4 leaf clovers with her sister and/or her daughter (my mom) and/or me. She LOVED to play that and win!! She was very good at it. She would always proudly say, "I found one!" and we would just try to keep up. Now I do it with my kids and we always make sure we do it on St. Patty's day and we put in a small piece of plastic wrap and press it in our Bible's. It's a fun tradition but it's also one that means a lot to me because it reminds me of her. She passed away 2 yr.s ago this March and she meant everything to me. We were very close so anything that I can pass on to my kids that I used to do with her means a lot to me.
